That's not the worst character resign I've seen.
Sure it messes with the "River Song is Ms. Frizzle" headcanon, but I've seen characters redrawn in worst ways.
Me and my brother figured it out real quick, but the only thing we cared about was that the little sister now completely transformed, instead of just like a part of her body changing to dragon, (at least, that's what I remember about the old style).
