Why do people consider them torture? I've watched a few of them and found them charming.
It's nice to see happy stuff once in a while. I get tired of violence and anger. Plenty of that in real life.

You wouldn't believe how many soldiers watch cartoons and play light-hearted games for that exact same reason

That makes a lot of sense. Most people I know that loves horror and grimdark series also have very privileged upbringings with little real hardship.
