Sounds military, and military is famous for being stereotyped as "overly aggressive meatheads" (no comment on factuality of the perception); so if it's infamous in military circles, it'd be worse outside them. Or at least, that's my takeaway.
I was once on a canoe trip for a school assignment (awesome class) and we were taking a minute to have lunch. While I was there I was looking around at my surroundings, as I usually do due to autism, and I saw my reflection in a female classmates large aviator sunglasses. My very first thought was "...do I usually look this angry?"
Might be slightly unrelated but I thought it was a fun little story lol
That's the type of stuff you notice when you have no life and look at how people interact in the street, it's somewhat mind-blowing. Also, consciously or not, random police controls (at least where I leave) will target the black guy who's frowning instead of the one who's not, which can either emanate from or reinforce this lingering idea.
