That's what people did back then, they would pack a picnic and go watch a battle from the sidelines.

Those are my old stomping grounds. It's a beautiful location, although plagued by gnats in the summer. When I was a child my mum took me there regularly for a dose of history and fresh air. Now Bull Run Battlefield is a peaceful oasis surrounded by DC sprawl.
