That's because more and more people working and single households have created a necessity for the food industry to evolve. It had already started at the end of the XIXth century due to the creation of canned food, which made things quicker, simpler and allowed for some types of food to be available all year round and everywhere (we take sardines for granted but they used to be a delicacy). And then of course the concomitant evolution of techniques and mentalities has brought us washing machines, ovens and microwaves, fridges which then made it possible to not go grocery shopping everyday... The brand Moulinex used to have as catchphrase "Moulinex frees the woman", cos it did go hand in hand with women employment. Then the 70-80s saw more and more people go for easy and quick, that's when stuff like instant noodles and soups hit the market. (another consequence was making lunch breaks way tinier. They used to be 2hrs long at the end of the XIXth c.) (yup I'm a nerd)
