The way it was understood in my corporate career: The one crab who gets to the edge and begins pulling himself up gets pulled back down by the others.

Your corporation sucks then. Most of my VP's and Senior management started out at entry. (Mutual Fund Brokerage Firm).

I think they are not trying to stop others from getting out. The just grab whatever they can.
