Have you considered just... telling them you value their input enough to want to make sure you heard them right? I've had good results with that approach

Just kidding but really, I usually apologize for my shit hearing and ask them to repeat. The whole "valuing their input"... idk I guess it depends on the context but it just rubs me the wrong way. But hey if it works for you, that's pretty cool.
Well if I'm talking to someone and actually give half a damn about them, it's a pretty major indicator that it's important. The point is, I don't talk to people if I don't care about them, if they aren't important to me at least for the few minutes we have together.
That is to say, everything the people I talk to say is important.
I can only hear out of my right ear. It's not always possible to use your value of their input when hearing everything and everyone is coming into one ear. Especially if all of the noise is bouncing off a wall.
