Spoilers: It wasn't. Tough modern Roanoke in Viginia might be a good place to live, @roanoke's name refers to the first attempt made by the British to colonize North America in 1585. The colony was found abandoned 5 years, which is why it's also known as the Lost Colony.
It probably didn't look like an Aroma Garden — https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Aroma_Garden — but I'm sure the settlers wouldn't have minded if it were. Also, the first pilgrims actually arrived 30 years after the colony was found deserted (in 1620) but I feel it still somewhat fits the theme. Plus, there are no "Colonial" monsters, whereas there a few "Pilgrim" monsters, such as Pilgrim Reaper — https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Pilgrim_Reaper —. (Interpret that any way you will.)

Incidentally, there are 11 states in the eastern US that have a place named Roanoke. Tennessee, the state I live in, does not.
