Good for them I suppose? It seems an odd thing to take pleasure in- the two are almost certainly not correlated directly. In the best of times the food service business is volatile and even popular places can be here one year gone the next. The pandemic caused many eateries and small (or even large) businesses to shut down regardless of wether they mandated customers wear masks or present vaccine cards. In many places where state or local rulings required it, places had to adhere to certain practices like requiring masks wether they personally wanted to or not lest they face fines or being shit down as well.
Do understand that vaccination status is not a protected status unless perhaps it is linked to a religious belief, medical condition, etc. therefore it is not discrimination in the legal sense, and in a free country or for those who value freedom in their country- it is an odd argument that so many said…
.. individual businesses should be free to not require masks while at the same time “taking joy” like this in their failing or getting upset when some exercised their freedom to mandate masks or vaccinations in their place that they own. It’s pretty basically understood that even if that’s not how you do things at your house or something you like- if someone asks you to take off your shoes before entering their home that you either do so, or do not enter- and that it their right as the property owner. If your friend had a new baby and you’ve never been vaccinated against small pox or TB or whatever else- it’s also pretty universal that most people would understand that it’s their prerogative to say: “I don’t want you to come over or see the baby..”
And like- what sort of shitty person would be like: “man, I took joy in finding out Jim lost his job because that guy wouldn’t let me come see his baby just because I didn’t have my TB shots and spent 2 years in a TB epidemic..”
Or “I’m so happy Jill lost her home. She always asks me to take off my shoes, serves her right..” like- what is the logic or politics behind that? At that point it isn’t even about freedom- like we can’t say: “I’m not a bad person, I just support individual freedom so I’m glad that someone went out of business for following their personal beliefs and exercising their legal freedom…” that’s inherently contradictory if we care about freedom at all. Like- what a silly thing to be upset that a private individual is taking the steps they believe are prudent to ensure the health and safety of themselves and their clients, without committing legal discrimination or breaking any laws. How dare they be… at worst… overly cautious…? I guess?
