Women wear stretchy clothes, and She-Hulk isn't nearly as bulky as He-Hulk. What is indeed unfair is that only she needs the "she" distinction and he doesn't.
Lol. I get where you’re coming from, I will say I see some validity to your explanation on the clothing, I would still see the entire transformation clothing situation as unrealistic in most examples involving well fitting commercial garments. That said- your point on the sexism- is beyond spot on. Hulks clothing transformation is extremely unrealistic as well generally. What pants rip at the calves and turn to shorts when the hips and butt increase in size like 10x? Without special clothes that expand with him, Hulk would just be naked- but there doesn’t seem to be the same fixation there from most.
She Hulk was created as an afterthought to protect the IP of the hulk. The studio wanted to prevent competitors and supposedly especially TV networks from creating a spin off/derivative work in the way of the 6 million dollar man/bionic woman. So most of the aspects of the character design and origin were slapped together to try and beat any would be IP vultures to the market.
We can see sexism all over in pop culture from the past, and comics are steeped in it, so of course we can find sexism in the writing, story, art, etc. of she hulk in various appearances- the fact that she is nowhere near as big as the hulk can be hand waved away but is likely itself an example- it has been historically rare that she hulk be depicted as particularly “hulkish,”usually looking somewhere between a bikini model and a fitness model, seldom of ever resembling an outrageous Olympian body builder physique like he-hulk. So as seems fairly common in comics, she hulk is inherently sexualized, presented in a way that has wide range “sex appeal.” As far as being a “hulk,” her appearance rarely is much more hulk-y than the sort of “limit” set on the level of athleticism or bulk most female heroes hover around. A sort of line where they might diverge too far from an accepted standard of beauty.
I mean- it goes deeper- but yeah. I think that “realism” can be a tricky and often silly thing to discuss in context to comic heroes- irradiated blood transfusions probably are more likely to cause cancer than super powers, neither hulk is a giant stretch mark or walking scar, nothing about any of this explains where the extra mass comes from…. So many things we can nit pick on realism- at the end of the day we know why their clothes stay on- especially 50 years ago but even now it wouldn’t fly to put a butt naked hulk of either gender on a toy rack or comic etc. with female heroes though it seems that certain topics get the most attention that don’t tend to get the attention on male heroes. Really both Hulks should probably be naked most of the time- so the question being she hulk specific kinda illustrates the point of what the bias is.
