my attitude is that most of the time, yeah, if you ignore them they’ll leave you alone. but sometimes, obviously, they won’t. give them one chance. and if they don’t, make them understand why that’s a bad idea.
Depends on the type and local attitude towards bullies.
You've got to your run-of-the-mill dick's who's compensating for something, they tend to give up and especially if people around them tell them they're being a dick because they respond to social pressure.
But then you've got your sociopathic narcissists and they're experts at playing people's feelings and attitudes, they'll run the rumour mill and pressure other people into participating. Social pressure and empathy won't work on these sick MF'ers.
Best way to deal with either kind imho, is to write down every thing, document injuries and damage to property and report everything. If your school/workplace doesn't listen report them to police for harassment and assault. You specifically want to write down Who did What, Where and When and What they said. Be clear and specific. Take pictures and try to get video of the event of you can. Take screenshots of messages. They'll try to make you think you're powerless but you're not.
All my bullies in HS were on sports teams. Finally started leaving me alone when I knocked the front tooth out of our star running back and he had to miss a game. Principal threatened to expel me for fighting because "no tolerance" policy. I went out and called in 5 other students who complained about the quarterback, center, 2 linebackers and 3 receivers. Told him, I'll go when they do. Not even note in my record.. or theirs. .. week later 5 football goons tried to jump me after school, pulled a claw hammer out of my car. "I can get into college with a broken leg, or jaw, or arm in my junior year, can you? " NO one touched me after that... I was too crazy.
@inspectora I have similar experiences except I was expelled for sending them back to bloody. All the teachers knew what was going on, I know because they were there and saw it. I was "transferred" to a school for "troubled kids" aka kids who had a criminal record. Becoming "too crazy" and all the other things they force us to do and become is quite horrifying.
(O0) ... we have .. the .. same mental disorder? >:) My experiences have made me super snarky, passive aggressive AF. I have bought shrimp just to slide into the back window of a person who parked in 4 spots at Walmart then left their windows down slightly.. in August.
Dunno, never done anything like that but then I've spent years in intensive psychotherapy unlearning behaviours and attitudes that sound eerily similar. I'm diagnosed with depression, generalised anxiety disorder, PTSD and cPTSD. I wasn't always the spreader of wholesome memes and, while I believe parliamentarian activism is the way, I secretly fantasise about getting to punch evildoers.
See, mental disorders are like quantum states, they only exist when measured. I personally believe all psychiatrist should cut hair. Then you get something tentative from the session. A physical change to prove progress. Also, punching evil-doers is my main reason to play lottery.
