Well…. Sort of? Saying someone that constantly wonders is intelligent is like saying someone who constantly hammers things is a carpenter. Like- if you’re hammering nails and joints to build something then maybe so. If you’re just smashing things or killing time banging a garbage can with a hammer your hammering isn’t a sign of any particularly positive attribute. Wondering can be equated to asking questions- something else that can be a sign of intelligence. That’s said- we need to remember two things. Firstly is that intelligence doesn’t mean knowledge or even a fundamental ability to grasp a certain thing. A plumber and an engineer both may know nothing of medicine or geology. So there are types of knowledge and intelligence. When we wonder, we ask ourselves a question- our ability to get an answer and arrive at a “correct” or defensible conclusion is perhaps a better sign of intelligence than the fact that we wonder on things.
One who blindly accepts all they see is perhaps lacking a certain type of intelligence that breeds healthy skepticism, nativity for example is a lack of knowledge or intelligence of the world. But the second thing to remember is that finding and accepting answers and gathering data externally are critical elements to well rounded intelligence. Wondering probably demonstrates intelligence best when the questions we are wondering about are turned on ourselves- as this quote implies “idiots are always so damn sure…” to wonder about oneself is introspection- to question our own values and convictions and such- to never be completely certain that our instincts or our own knowledge or conclusions are correct. This can most often be seen in how people argue or debate- those who lack a sort of fundamental intelligence are the sorts one can’t engage in debate without the other party resorting to gimmicks or trying to be loudest while staunching digging their heels in against any evidence..
.. contrary their position. The type that cherry picks facts to support their own views even when the majority of people or more specialized and knowledgeable persons are telling them otherwise.
When we do not listen we are demonstrating that we don’t wonder- we don’t question are selves. If we don’t try to hear and understand others and explore the logical conclusions of a given train of thought- we are showing that we are the ones who are too damn sure of ourselves to be but idiots.
