Yes. This is true- but with a few asterisks.
1. The current data used to calculate the taxes is from 2018. More data is supposedly on the way and we won’t know for certain how the long term numbers look, but it is reasonable to extrapolate that based on how taxes and general income increases etc. work- probably not a fluke.
2. Not ALL Texans pay more. In Texas, the lowest income earners pay much more on average than California in taxes. The middle income earners pay more. The top 1% of income earners in Texas pay less, a great deal less, that the top 1% of income earners in California.
In other words, If you happen to be one of the states richest people, the Texas tax system is VERY comfortable, and if you happen to be in the other 99% of people, California's Tax system would probably leave you with more money from your check and less money you had to pay to the government in Taxes.
