Every time I'm eating with someone, I get asked questions with long answers. Talk so much other person finishes eating 1/3 way through. Then I have to eat fast so as to not cause them to be bored while waiting. I miss good food and have gotten used to being lonely, so eating alone is when food tastes best. Until waitress come by as I'm taking a bite just to ask "IS EVERYTHING DELICIOUS?" I spit out the mouthful back to the plate after the third ask just to tell her "except for the constant interruptions, it's fine." Guy across the bar non-verbally high-fived me for the act.

Maybe it's not loneliness but a parent having a moment of respite. Have kids and you'll quickly learn to enjoy a meal in peace.

Maybe it's someone who needs some time alone to recharge after talking to others for hours, or just to read a magazine or newspaper.
