I didn’t think it was a bad movie, nor did I say the performances weren’t excellent- fresh strawberries on stale cake don’t make a bad cake and they don’t make a great cake necessarily- it is seldom the whole that gets judged by singular parts.
That said, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I feel that “Speed Racer” live action is one of the most realistic portrayals of what it is like to be a race car driver ever put to screen. The physics and everything else are not realistic and it’s objectively a poor film. I own a copy. It captures the spirit and nuance of the thing and I think it has many great aspects and moments. Objectively it is not a good movie though.
Is Joker objectively bad? I don’t think it is. It isn’t objectively great either. It has elements and moments. It has aspects good and bad. What many people don’t understand it that film critics largely fall into two camps- the ones who do reviews which try to advise a hypothetical “average viewer” what they’ll enjoy watching, and the “traditional critic” who is an art critic and rates on art in the medium. How do I put this…? In-N-out burger, shake shack, steak and shake, cook out… make a darn good burger. Very enjoyable for most people. As far as culinary artistry goes though- low marks. Novelty? Craft? Various aspects of cuisine- even the flavor profile- not compelling. That’s fine though. I don’t go to fast food joints to have my culinary boundaries challenged. That said- if I’m looking for a recommendation on food- I have to understand that a foodie isn’t likely to have the same criteria or recommendations as a random fast food lover.
I took no offense but appreciate your clarifications. I also would like to say that it wasn’t until now that I realized your post was an entirely different post and not a reply to mine. When I saw it for some reason it looked like a reply, so I was attempting to continue a discussion and explain myself and instead I stepped into your opinion and offered an unsolicited and unwarranted reply. I am sorry for that and don’t want you to think I would or did take your opinion and disregard it or anything like that.
Thank you.
