But why does everyone call it 'monster'? When we studied it, we always referred to it as 'creature'.

It probably started with the first cinematic adaptations. The iconic 1931 movie was named "Frankenstein - The man who created a monster" on the posters.

No. The only quote that refers to that is '"I ought to be thy Adam"'. It was only other adaptations / works where its name could have been Adam.
