In October 2021 the Senator of Idaho(R) posted a picture of a Chinese warship to wish the Navy happy birthday.
GOP Rep. Brian Mast (Fla.) Posted a Russian warship wishing the Navy happy 244th in 2019. It’s surprisingly common it seems for these politicians to screw this up- which is very disrespectful and sort of contradicts the message of pride and care for the services.
I couldn’t find any solid evidence to support the claim made here except some comments on her Twitter, but it does appear Miss. Hirschauer has posted this same message with a picture of the Marine Corps Memorial under it- with that post being made within the last couple hours. I am honestly too lazy to go look for deleted Tweets to see if the previous picture was or was not posted. Whoever originated the picture should probably think about things a bit.
End of the day there was disrespect done to the Crops and the services in general. I do not think it is fair to expect politicians in general to be familiar with military equipment on the whole, many are civilians and can’t necessarily tell what nation or branch of service an aircraft belongs to by looking at without clear national markings, but if you’re going to express well wishes or solidarity to the military you could at least be bothered to make sure that you are posting photos of your actual military. Not knowing is maybe forgivable but not being bothered to check when you don’t know is extremely disrespectful even if you genuinely meant well. It tends to look otherwise when you can’t even get your nations military in the photo.
This particular politician has done veterans events and charities in the past and wether that was genuine or not it is at the least appreciated at face value I suppose- but hopefully we see less things like this as politicians seem to do this often
