Because Americans make everything about themselves and we don't like that. So we make it all about America.... weird.

Lol. I get you. A bit like celebrity gossip. “I made everything about me and tried to get everyone saying how great I am but now everyone is talking about me but I don’t like what they are saying so they should quit!” A touch hypocritical. And of course the size and influence of America generally means that even “small” ripples caused by America or Americans and their choices can impact others, and Americans often don’t put thought into that. It could be called very self centered. In some cases it is, in others perhaps it is; but one can also argue a different philosophy. Compared to some other cultures Europe at large is individualistic, but compared to America Europe at large is global- a combined sum total shared culture that prizes social harmony and not making people uncomfortable to a greater degree than Americans in general. American attitudes tend in general to be very individualist. “I am an individual, my happiness is my responsibility and yours is your own.” Like that.

That generally leads to “me” centric thinking. Americans generally don’t see themselves as supporting characters, Americans are the lead. The story is about the individual, and everyone else is making their own story. Unless you find their story interesting or want to make them part of your story, by and large the American philosophy is that they can do whatever they want over there if it doesn’t get in my way, and I’ll do the same. When things get in the way, Americans do have some concept of preserving social harmony, but on the whole American culture is about conflict. If you disagree you say it and you fight for what you believe even if it might cause disharmony. If you want it and someone else does and only one can have it, you work to be the one who gets it in the end. A very european vibe is one where no one eats the last donut because everyone wants it but not everyone can have it or even a piece of it, so no one gets any of it.

There are merits to both philosophies I think. Americans talk about ourselves because we are the only ones we are qualified to speak for. I can say what I want but I can’t so easily say what you might want. So for sure- it gets complicated and on the whole America and Americans could learn to be more considerate and have more positive interactions with the global community. We could take some criticisms not as insults but instead as suggestions we might work on. That said everywhere has its problems, but you’ll generally find more people tryin g to move in to America than to move out. So that says something right there- what is debatable. Most Americans will tell you that the “brochure” lies lol. America isn’t everything the carefully crafted image of it would want you to believe.

This is because whatever the USA decide has consequences for the rest of the world, friend or foe. Good and bad decisions, made by governments elected by the american people. Who - when you look at it - are not exceptionally great at making decisions all the time. And obviously, their decision making process is not exactly improving. So it's kinda like watching an inebriated driver blasting Death Metal on 11 from the back seats, while being tied up. Hell yeah, we're watching that shit show closely! And fucking hell yeah, we're commenting on it. Not because we're obsessed with you, but because we're obsessed with being alive and well. Thanks for asking though!
