Makes sense, I guess, since the Anglo-Saxons came from an area that is now Denmark. It does make me wonder how much of this a modern Dane would understand.
Some words sound similar to German as well.
Old Norse and Old English were fairly mutually intelligible. They both derived from proto-Germanic, and Old English by definition is before Norman-French pollution, so they had not deviated that far apart. This vid has 2 guys conversing in the 2 languages: https://youtu.be/eTqI6P6iwbE
