I've found that if you take something "offensive", and flip the genders around (for instance, a girl asks a guy to make her a sandwich) and it becomes okay, then it probably isn't offensive.
If you call a black person by the color of their skin, you'd be accused of being racist. Not the same for white people. Anyway can we not have a race debate on Funsubstance?
Okay guys, so I'm black and personally, I could care less what you call me as long as it's true because I do the same thing. as long as it's not nigger. even nigga is okay if it's in terms of endearment like my "nigga". bigger isn't acceptable though and I have Noto problem with "black guy"
I think as a society we've lost the meaning of racism because the card's been called so many times. For example, if a saleslady working at the mall says, "Oh, these blue shoes would go great with your skin color!" to a black lady, it sounds totally racist, when it's not. If she was racist, she'd instead say, "Sorry, I don't associate with black people." Racism is discrimination and prejudice against an entire group of people that share common features, physical/beliefs/religion/culture/heritage, blah blah blah, it's not saying that the Asian is chinky-eyed. That's true, he is chinky-eyed.
This girl is awesome. And people, I don't think we can completely get rid of racism until we believe that there is no such thing as 'black guy' or 'white guy'. Pretend racism never happened.
As a girl, I agree. But I'm a really bad cook and my boyfriend loves cooking (and is AWESOME at it) so I don't get asked this :P I am, however, the one that fixes the electrical and mechanical stuff.
Honestly, it depends on how he's asking for it, and who he is. If he's being lazy and crabby while demanding a sandwich, I'm sure as heck not making him one. But if he just asks nicely I'll make him the best sandwich he's ever had.
I think what we ask someone to do should be based on what they actually can do. If a guy can make a better sandwich, ask him. If a girl can fix a computer or a bookshelf better, ask her. Or vice versa.
People like that piss me off.
