It's true. It used to be illegal to be gay, but was changed to an illness in 1944. In 1955 payed sick leave was instituted. After many years of petitioning the government to remove homosexuality as an illness, people just started calling in gay. The law changed really fast after that.

Futhermore, the same law also outlawed beastiality. This is why it was legal for like 40 years in Sweden.
