There’s a lot of misunderstanding around autism and neurodivergency
While I do think that you should accomodate for certain things, it is absolutely not okay to coddle your kid and not prepare them for adult life.
Sheltering your kid, autistic or not, is harmful.
I can say from personal experience that I have a sensory avoidance around soft foods. But I am still able to eat fruits and vegetables that are barely ripe or raw.
And make no mistake: autistic kids can also figure out how to get their way. You need to know when to set boundaries
Did a shift in ER for EMT certification years back. Woman came in every weeks saying she can't poop. Dr's examine, not impacted. Prescription laxatives h fiber. SOMEONE.. Googled symptoms and got prolapse uterus. "Oh yeah, my DR said I had that 15 years ago and it would be fine. Is that whst the problem is?" 4 surgeries to correct.
During these visits, she feel like heart attack, ALL tests say no.. her son insists go to cath lab... 95% blockage requiring 4 stents in coronary arteries 3 months after her cardiologist gave glowing stress test results.
(SMH) if your disease / disorder / injury doesn't fit the 95% of all historical ER cases... good chance they don't know. (Shakes medical magic 8 ball) House M.D. is a TV show, not real.
