Another way you could never escape time keeping is the position of the sun in the sky. Eventually you would notice a pattern as to where the sun is throughout the day. Based on that you would know when to get up and when to go to bed. So even if a concept of time was never introduced such as the "caveman" days, the sun has always been a way to keep up with time.
