I think about 2% of that noise is actually background radiation and noise left over from the big bang. When you hear that noise you are partly hearing the the beginning of the universe. Let that sink in.
I still have this small tv that is specialized for VCR movies (if you don't know what a VCR is you're way too young for this site) and I still have a bunch of cassette movies I sometimes watch when I feel like watching my favorite classics, and everytime I turn it on I startle myself by the static noise. It also apears when I'm fastforwading/rewinding a video cassette or when the credits end. I love that TV and those movies because it reminds me of my childhood
