They had proof of Nixon's Watergate scandal. He resigned before he could be impeached and convicted. As of right now, they don't have physical proof of the possible wire tapping that happened recently.
The difference is that in Obamas case(or bush for that matter) the representatives had knowledge of the programm and the wiretapping. So while morally questionable it wasn´t technically illegal.
No it is illegal. Sometimes even our own elected representatives break the law. Just because they work for the government, doesn't mean they can do something illegal and it be considered legal just because they're working for our government.
Maybe if you weren't killing each other and having massive plots of terrorism planned against you it wouldn't be necessary? Shooting each other unarmed in the streets and calling it neighbourhood watch. High schools shooting. Perhaps the leash should be a little tighter.
But you also have to consider personal freedom rights that are in the constitution. Maybe there should be tighter restrictions, but there's the issue of invasion of privacy.
It is unconstitutional to wiretap people, because we do have a right to privacy, and it is stated in the constitution. It is also completely pointless, because the idea of actually finding a real terrorist is ridiculously low.
It's called 911... and also. We basically gave the government the OK to spy on us to! We were in fear of the terrorists because we didn't know who could be a terrorist in our country. I don't see what the big freakin deal is, why are people so upset with the NSA? It's for PROTECTION! Obviously they are not listening to everyones conversations. If you have nothing to hide you shouldn't care! I'm not acriminal so they can spy on me all they want.
