Funny thing is that it probably wasn't real. When we fall asleep and wake up from sleep we enter a period of hynopompic/hynagogic brain activity. This can result in visual hallucinations. The most common hallucination is of spiders. The hallucinations can vary in size and movement, but one thing that is consistent is the realism. They may last from a few seconds to minutes before completely disappearing. When people get very tired, they can also get these spider hallucinations. This has happened to me many times. It is completely normal, just a bit unsettling if you don't know what is happening. The more you know.

I assure you friend, this was no mere hallucination. It crawled behind the bed, whereupon I tore my room apart to fight this evil fiend; a coward who had been sent to assassinate me in my sleep. Using the mighty Spiderist, the spider cleaver, I sent the fell beast back to the pit from whence it came. Its grave was the murky depths of the toilet. Victory is mine.
