yes, actually.
guitar->cable->wireless box often attached to strap->input box thingy on ground->effect boxes->amp->speakers
it's kind've of like two walkies talkies, exept only one can talk
It is impossible to have a guitar playing into an amp, without some kind of connector. Wireless ones exist, i have one myself, but it still NEEDS to be plugged into the guitar. You can't expect the air to no what you're playing
Alright y'all. Let me make this clear. I've been playing guitar for 6 years and have actually BUILT one. The sound from an electric guitar comes from the strings (obviously). The vibrations are then received by the pickups, which are special magnets with wire wrapped around them a few thousand times. (On Niall's Stratocaster, they're the 3 black things on the pickguard)...
...The pickups transform the vibrations into electrical energy, and the electricity runs through the pickup selecter switch and in this case, a Volume pot and two Tones...
...After this, the sound, still in the form of electricity travels to the output jack. If nothing is plugged into this jack, then the only sound you're gonna get is the unamplified acoustic sound from the strings themselves...
...If a wired system is used, a 1/4" cable is run from the output jack to the effects loop, amp, or however the guitarist/technician prefers to get the desired sound. The only thing wireless about a wireless system is the space between...
... the guitar and the receiving end (amp head and cabinet/fx loop). There still is a 1/4" cable that plugs into the output jack on the guitar. It's usually not any longer than a foot or two, because it connects to a wireless transmitter that is normally attached to the strap or the guitarist's belt, as Mouthparts said earlier...
...The transmitter sends the signal carrying the sound to it's other half. From the receiver, the signal travels into the FX loop/amp head and cabinet and sometimes into a PA system for larger venues, but that's a different story...
That's one of the singers (Niall) as a joke on stage he borrowed the guitarists guitar and tried to play it
Its also above-mentioned. And I have also Seen the concert where this happened, so...
Well he chose a damn nice guitar to borrow then. Fender Stratocasters are my favorite. Very distinctive tone. Used by John Mayer, Stevie Ray Vaughn, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton (and the list continues).
first, he is part of the band not lead guitarist and damn it is fucking wireless you dumb fucks no need cables so get ur shit together and research before saying crap

that's why they're called wireless guitars! Idiots!
