The original is the ever popular:
"Quote From Man Stabbed:
'What are you gonna do, stab me?'"
.
This, like many others, is photoshopped. The original, however absurd, is real:

"Bouazizi was like the hundreds of desperate, downtrodden young men in hardscrabble Sidi Bouzid. Bouazizi earned an income from selling vegetables, work that he'd had for seven years.
.
On Dec. 17 his livelihood was threatened when a policewoman confiscated his unlicensed vegetable cart and its goods. Not satisfied with accepting the 10-dinar ($7) fine that Bouazizi tried to pay, the policewoman allegedly slapped the scrawny young man, spat in his face and insulted his dead father.
.
Humiliated and dejected, Bouazizi, the breadwinner for his family of eight, went to the provincial headquarters, hoping to complain to local municipality officials, but they refused to see him. At 11:30 a.m., less than an hour after the confrontation with the policewoman and without telling his family, Bouazizi returned to the elegant double-storey white building with arched azure shutters, poured fuel over himself and set himself on fire."

While this is excellent satire, it's obviously not real. The actual story is far, far darker. The source of this image:
http://www.tunisia-live.net/2012/01/12/one-year-after-the-uprisings-tunisians-still-self-immolating/
.
"self-immolation" is when people set themselves on fire, often in protest. Yes, conditions are so bad that people willingly set themselves on fire. Kinda makes your problems a little less significant, doesn't it?
.
It was started by a man named Bouazizi:

Bra is an abbreviation of brassiere which came about in the early twentieth century from the French word brassière.
.
Brassière doesn't actually have anything to do with breasts. It means "upper arm". In 1904, the DeBevoise Company decided to use French to advertise their bust supporter (because French sounded "fashionable") so they called it a brassière. The term "bra" was first used in the 1930s as an abbreviation.

If you look closely, that is a quote by Paul Hawken. His name is at the bottom. He is referencing a very beautiful quote by Emerson:
.
"If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore; and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God which had been shown! But every night come out these envoys of beauty, and light the universe with their admonishing smile."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
.
Emerson did not talk about television. He died on April 27, 1882, and what is considered to be the first demonstration of television didn't occur until nearly half a century later on January 26, 1926.

PURPLEREST!! 4 comments

"purple" can be an adjective, so "purpler" and "purplest" are absolutely real words in the dictionary.
- FunStats
.
(Did you know that purple can also mean "profane or shocking"? I didn't. So when someone swears at you, you can tell them to stop being so purple, or you can swear right back at them and see if you can be "purpler" than they are.)

ONE study found:

.
So yes, it's a real study, but it means little unless it is corroborated by another study.

Here it is from Google Earth. If you're on a computer Google will put a bunch of user submitted images along the bottom. There are dozens of photos of the phonomenon as well as the other formations, all incredible. Gotta get here some day!

Apparently they "apologized" and gave his cane back. Isn't it great how that works? The story gets out on the news and social media, and then the school realizes that they better do something to cover themselves, so they "apologize" and everything's sunshine and rainbows again!
I feel sorry for those affected by assholes with power that don't have their stories go viral, since I'm sure if this didn't get spread around, the school would never have bothered to even issue an apology.

If you want to see the original video (25 seconds), I've tracked it down:
http://bit.ly/1DDZcmH (YouTube)
.
If you're on a computer, that should start right at this segment, and end right when it's over. On mobile, I'm not sure. It's at about 1:44 in the whole video if you want to find it.

Same newspaper used in TV shows and movies 8 comments
funstats · 9 years ago
Yeah, it's too much trouble to legally acquire a current paper. They can't just go to the local gas station, buy today's paper, and put it on TV, as the newspaper company holds the rights to their papers' contents.
.
It's not actually the same paper, they just have it printed a bunch of times. Read more:

Triage is the process of sorting patients into three categories:
- Those who are likely to live, regardless of treatment.
- Those who are likely to die, regardless of treatment.
- Those who's fate may likely be determined by immediate action.
Those in the third category are treated first.
.
So if you're in war or a disaster scenario, and you're not the one rushed to treatment, you may have just been left to die.
.
This optimistic fact brought to you by FunStats.
