"Bufo surdus" - I am become deaf. Quite the ubiquitous little toad, they're found in Iran (obviously), Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. They're especially prevalent in the Kirkuk region of Iraq. So much so that US soldiers often report them hanging out in old drain pipes. (Note: Iz not spy, iz fren. No shoot plz)

Welp, this has got to be some kind of record. Only a few days into the new year, and we already got an incipient plague in China, and we're on the brink of WW III.

"Ranoidea moorei" - also know as Moore's frog. How they got their name should be fairly obvious. But why 'motorbike' and not 'motorcycle?' Well, because they're Australian. More specifically they're found in southwestern Australia (you can hear their calls if you live in Perth) Despite being tree frogs (sticky toe pads and all that) they spend most of their time on the ground. (Sometimes they congregate into gangs, such as the infamous Perth's Angels)

I know it may come as a surprise to no one, but I think Pepe more than deserves the spot (or at least a mention) I mean he went from being labelled a hate symbol to actually being a symbol of hope for people fighting against one of the worst regimes on Earth. That's truly inspiring.

New year, new frogs. My Froggo Fren series focused on showcasing frog species with the occasional meme, and it will still be that. This series however will be all about the memes, featuring real frogs or otherwise.

"Raorchestes shillongensis" - yup, that's what they're really called. Other names include the Shillong bubble-nest frog and the Shillong bush frog. Despite their festive-sounding name, these frogs have very little to celebrate, as they are critically endangered. They're only found in a very small area in Shillong, in north-eastern India. However, they were made famous by being the subject of a documentary called 'Thumbelina - the story of an Xmas Frog' (Let's wish them a Merry Xmas, but hopefully not farewell)

Bet you didn't know there were Jewish frogs, did you? Well, that's because there aren't. Frogs are not known for being particularly religious. Still, that doesn't mean they can't enjoy some latkes, and play a game of dreidel.

"Phyllomedusa sauvagii" - recently escaped from Madame Tussauds, these frogs prefer not to partake in primate puns. Therefore I refrain from monkeying around. They live in the Gran Chaco, a semi-arid lowland plain which covers parts of Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil. Despite the harshness of their environment, they don't let it dampen their holiday spirit. Largely because they have other adaptations to keep themselves moist in their dry habitat, such as lipid secretion through their skin, and going into a state of torpor during the day. (And no, they will by no means wax your monkey)
