No better time to resurrect a series than now. And the tale of this small Ecuadorian frog (Atelopus longirostris) is just that, a story about revival. It was thought to have gone extinct, eluding scientists for nearly two decades (1989 - 2016). But four healthy adults were found in March 2016, and they were taken to a research and conservation center in the hopes of establishing a captive breeding population. Unfortunately though, as of this moment the species remains extinct in the wild. The usual suspects are believed to have been responsible for their rapid population decline: loss of habitat due to deforestation and the dreaded chytrid fungus.

Oh no... Anyway.

What could be spookier than German nationalism? Plenty of things, I'd imagine (like Oktoberfest being cancelled because of COVID). Germany has certainly had its ups and downs throughout its long history, and it's definitely come a long way in recent years. This is especially true since the fall of the Berlin Wall and German Reunification, which is what this holiday celebrates in addition to being the German National Day. So let's raise our beer mugs high and toast: "Auf die Deutsche Einheit!"
