Nostalgiavember Day 29 - Undertale 4 comments

Yeah, Undertale is only a little over 6 years old, but damn if it didn't leave its mark. Even people who don't like it know who Sans is, or at least recognize him. And Megalovania had cemented itself as a meme song.
This another one of those things that has an inordinate amount of fan labor behind it (music, comics, mods, animations, and even a full-blown fan animated series known as Glitchtale).
The game of course is notorious for throwing curveball after curveball at the player and hilariously (and thoughtfully) deconstructing RPG tropes. Basically, it's a visual novel disguised as an RPG with some bullet hell elements. If you play it like a visual novel, you'll get the best ending. If you play it like an RPG, you're gonna have a bad time...

That's okay. Thank you for your explanation. I did think about using 'Soße,' but I thought it wasn't German-sounding enough, if you can believe my logic.

That's 'cause he knows you harbor doubts towards the Party. But don't worry. He also knows your greatest fear, and soon you will be cured.

The 90s wasn't the only decade that was Xtreme. This 80s show (read: toy comercial) featured the eponymous team of high-tech soldiers fighting against higher-tech (cyborg) would-be world conquerors.
I remember each of the three Centurions had an area of expertise which roughly corresponded to the branches of most armies. Ray (the de facto leader) was a sea warfare expert. Rockwell, well you can guess. And Ace McCloud, need I say it?
The episodes I recall the most clearly were the ones were each of them had to fight in a different terrain than they were used to: Ray on land, Rockwell in the air, and Ace in the water.
And there was also an episode were the villains found and tried to mechanize dinosaurs. Yeah, the 80s were weird, huh?...

At least it's not a bologna pony. I hear those are the most dangerous ones to ride.

There was also one with a secret cabal and alien faction. I think it was the Tiberium Wars series.

Kirov reporting!
*
The Command & Conquer series has more a few entries. And this one is by far my favorite. When it comes to real-time strategy, I don't know if any game can match up to Red Alert 2 (well, Starcraft was pretty good too, but I prefer the former's aesthetic).
I remember only finishing the Soviet campaign (world domination, comrades) and mostly playing custom maps afterwards.
The Soviets really did have some cool units and structures, like the Tesla Coils, Tesla Troopers, Desolators and of the Kirov airships. Oh, and giant squids.
The allies were no slouches either, with their chrono-technology (Chrono-miners, Chrono-Sphere and Chrono-Troopers) and their Prism Towers and Tanks. Oh, and a storm generator.
And yes, later Command & Conquer games had a Chinese and terrorist faction too...

Nostalgiavember Day 26 - Looney Tunes 1 comments
happy_frog · 3 years ago
It's not surprising that they'd have a Thanksgiving episode (or several) since Looney Tunes have been around since the 30's and are still going.
The Chuck Jones era shorts are classics. While the jokes were funny, it's the incredibly smooth animation that really sticks out for me. That and of course Mel Blanc's legendary voice work. The newer Looney Tunes just don't have the same punch without.
Bugs Bunny is everyone's favorite (quite literally; apparently he's the most popular cartoon character of all time). I also remember really liking the shorts with Sylvester and his son. There were also a couple of spooky shorts with him that did creep me out.
I seem to recall as well that sometimes when there was a explosion gag, it suddenly and weirdly cut to the next scene. I wonder why... (That's rhetorical, of course. I know why)
