If I recall, some adjectives/adverbs take the 'no' particle. And 'hontou' is one of them.

I mean, "hippopotamus" does mean "river horse" in Latin. And, (un)surprisingly the German names for "bat" (Fledermaus) and "turtle" (Schildkröte) also mean the same thing as they do in Swedish.
