I was worried that a Yogi Bear reference might date me but then I realized nothing (and no one) would date me.

Just don't call Rushia (the green-haired one) flat and you should be fine. I'd still be on my guard regardless since one of them is a war criminal, and another might make a habit out of shivering your timbers.

I would make a Lion King reference, but that'd be pointless too, wouldn't it?

The largest known bioluminescent animal growing up to 2.3 m (about 7.5 ft) and 161 kg (about 356 kb). They are among the top predators of their habitat; nonetheless they are still preyed upon by sperm whales. This species has only very rarely been filmed in the wild: one instance was in 2005, and another in 2012. (I guess shinning bright doesn't always mean you wanna be seen.)
