It's always better to have and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Millennium Falcon cake is 96 percent fondant, probably 7 comments

If everyone liked the same things life would be boring. Personally the only type of sweet covering for cake I like is a whipped topping. And your definitely right about it's overuse to substitute for skill. The problem I've found, besides the taste, is that it's use tends to lead to a dramatic reduction of quality and taste of the cake portion of the cake. If a cake doesn't taste good without a topping it shouldn't be served. No amount of decoration is going to make up for the lack of taste. I am definitely someone who falls into the if it looks ugly but tastes good I'm going to eat it category.

That's also why it's been found that people who have learned a second language, have trouble lying in that language. They also tend to be extremely logical when thinking and speaking in a language that's not their first.

It looks nice, but I hate the taste of fondant and think it should be banned from cakes.

How did they manage that? I thought some jerk off artist acquired the rights to be the sole user of vantablack.

It's interesting if you look at the etymology/history. Door nails, for whatever reason, were called dead if after you nailed it through the door you then bent the tip down. It's possible they were called that because until you bent it down you could still pull it out and reuse the nail, so it was alive. Once it was bent, because prior to machines screws were a phenomenal pain to make, you couldn't use it again, so it would be dead.

It's missing the response where someone asked if it tasted good and they responded with a resounding no.

Dead as a doornail didn't originate with Shakespeare. It's been around and in published works since 1350. Which means it was probably around even earlier.

Well that's interesting. You may not realize that slavery is still practiced today and is legal in several countries. But don't take my word for it check out this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_the_21st_century Funnily enough, most of the English countries fall into the 0.0-0.05 range.

Of course that also depends on the tone and if we stretch out the word or not. Awesome can also mean "sounds nice, but I don't care" or "that's really going to screw up my day". And this is true for most of the words on this list.

He just felt like running 9 comments

Remember it's not just eating you also have to do enough exercise in one day to burn those 10k calories. So how much do you have to eat to be able to burn 10k calories in one day without killing yourself or need to intake more? I have no clue.

I remember reading about this. They spent months building it, to scale, and then players promptly blew it up.

I know about carb loading but you couldn't begin to eat enough to satisfy the demands of 10000 calories.

So on average you expend 100 calories per mile you travel. This is the roughly the same whether you run or walk. That makes this 10000 calories burned in 11hr:20min. That's insane. He'd had to have been eating and drinking while running at that speed.

Non stop that would take almost 4 years to watch. And that's only because we have a leap year once every 4 years.

Poor guy died like a nobody 4 comments

He was completely reliant on others goodwill at the end of his life because he had nothing. He lived in a hotel and had lost everything he'd ever built because he couldn't afford to keep it. He didn't have to be a capitalist in order to be able to pay for his own food.

Don't get me wrong I think Tesla was a great inventor, but he was rather stupid about other things. He died penniless because he couldn't manage his finances and refused to accept any deals that would let others manage them. Edison was a so so inventor and general scumbag but he new how to handle money and how to get more. I've always thought Tesla would have thrived if he just capitulated and let others use his inventions to make money as long as they financed his ideas. What he needed was a patron. They would have made a great team if Edison just funded whatever projects Tesla wanted to do and in return Tesla let Edison make money off his inventions.

This of course is all predicated on you being able to hire and keep workers. Too many people want the pay but don't want to do the work. At my job it always seems to be a surprise to people when we say it can be a physically demanding job and the job actually turns out to be physically demanding.
