This reminds me of the Mythbusters. They were not and are still not friends (Jaime and Adam). They had a great respect for each other, the others ability to work, and the work they did, but generally didn't like each other. Contrarily, they did work well together because of that respect and their differing viewpoints. That and they acted like adults when they did have disagreements.

Truthfully, I generally don't want to hear your opinion. However, I'm never going to tell you not to give your opinion or work to prevent you from voicing your opinion. The only. and I do me only. caveat is that if you're giving your opinion it needs to be in the correct manner. If you're having a conversation with me that is an appropriate time. If I'm having a conversation with someone else and you yell out over them or me, unsolicited, then you and your opinion is garbage. Giving your opinion in a respectful manner means I'm going to respect you whether or not I agree. And I will defend your right to that opinion even if I hate it.

Not disagreeing but there is an interesting concept that I know is in development that may make electric cars more reasonable, "powered roads". The concept is that the cars are charged wirelessly from the roads themselves. So while driving on the road you don't actually need a to use batteries and the on board batteries will be charged from the road to give you power when you're not using a powered road. Yes, I know, there are massive complications and considerations for this but it is a cool concept.

Mostly because each of the spellings represent something completely different. Many stories have Fae, Fairies, Fair Folk and the Fey while also using Faerie to represent a land.

Brief history lesson: The motorcar saved New York City.
So before cars became widely used everyone used horse drawn carts, everyone knows this. What you may not be aware of is how much horses left behind. Horse feces was apparently so prevalent in New York City that it piled up on the sides of the roads like snow. That's not even counting the corpses of horses left if they died. Here's a fun article if you want to read more: https://99percentinvisible.org/article/cities-paved-dung-urban-design-great-horse-manure-crisis-1894/

The "inclement weather" law is, as far as I know, in all states and territories of the US. Meaning you are required by law to turn on your headlights. If your wipers are going your headlights better be on.

This is the definition of keeping an open mind. Doesn't mean you won't still disagree but you at least make you decision based on more than "No". That is toddler speak and we all know toddlers that say no to everything even if they do actually agree with you.

Most people actually gain in trust 5 comments

Which makes you a good person and is respectable in and of itself. An individual can only demonstrate their respect for others by their actions; until we learn how to read minds. Which brings in that other word Honor. Your personal honor is not reliant on others which is why you treat people with kindness and politeness. This in turn generates respect for yourself which is honestly earned by the actions you perform. Lovely little circle don't you think?

Good advice as long you also realize toxic people will argue with you and call it expressing their feelings. The trick is figuring out who is what. And sometimes, even without intending too, you're the toxic person. That being said if you find yourself being toxic around a person or persons it's probably best to avoid those people as well. Avoid people who bring out the worst in you.

Conflating respect with kindness or politeness is pretty common misapprehension. Respect is earned simply because you can't respect someone until you known them for a length of time. It's hard to have a deep admiration for someone if you know nothing about them. Whereas you can treat everyone with kindness or politely while you determine whether they are worthy of your respect.
On the flip side respect can also be demanded by those with power over you. Since respect doesn't require you to like the person merely understand they can ruin/end your life and those around you based on their whims.

Correct, with one caveat. Talent, true talent can only be discovered after you've spent quite a bit time doing something. Chances are really good that even if you do have talent you'll still suck at first but that's normal. You may find you don't have a talent for doing something but the only way to tell is to keep doing it.
Also, if anyone tries to tell you to stop because you don't have talent, screw them. If everyone stopped doing something because they weren't immediately great at it nothing would have ever been accomplished.

Being gifted can have its drawbacks 12 comments
lucky11 · 2 years ago
The problem of being "gifted" is you're generally not learning at the same rate as everyone else. "Duh". Classes for "gifted" need to be correspondingly difficult to train the student in appropriate study techniques. Unfortunately, or obviously, "gifted" students also learn at different speeds. There is no one size fits all and the necessary work to needed to challenged a truly "gifted" person would bury the more regular fast learners and be impossible for normal students. Then there is classroom teaching speeds. A teacher can only teach to the slowest student. Then there is fairness to consider. Is it fair to assign what amounts to more homework to some just because they're faster? How do you grade that? Without private tutoring, you can see how difficult the problem is for teachers and parents.

There was once a game that listed an email address or an mail address, I forget which, that if you sent them an email/letter to that address with your mailing address and full name would send you a check for $1000. This was listed in the Terms & Conditions. Only one person ever sent them something and they sent the check for a $1000.
