Definitely a step backwards in some ways, but nowhere NEAR as bad as people make it out to be.
They mostly just talk about how bad it looks, as if the other games were visual masterpieces. Like, yeah it doesn't look great by any stretch, but neither do most RPGs.

Through some combination of clicking on spam ads and putting a bunch of weird toolbars on our computer, my mom's home PC in like 2009 had a fuckton of viruses and stuff on it.
She got a popup saying something along the lines of, "Obama and the NSA are monitoring this device" and so she figured the most reasonable thing to do was take the monitor and tower outside to set it on fire.
