I imagine because her partner wouldn't be suspicious of a nurse taking his partner off to the shower alone compared to if the nurse asked him to leave the room so she can talk to her. Also, if she does need to talk and takes a bit longer when she returns there is the excuse of needing help from the nurse for checking stitches or getting in/out of the shower.

I think L-R top row is sycamore, birch or elm, some kind of pine and bottom row; English oak, possibly cherry, and not sure about the other one. If you taught tree identification for 5 years I'm surprised you don't recognise any of them.
