One of the worst people I've ever worked with was a guy who knew our system in and out, was a quick learner, and met all his goals in a timely manner. He was also the meanest person I've ever met and once threatened to punch me in the nose for not saying hello to him.

Yeah...but she is an astrophysicist. She teaches at a university in Australia and has several readily available academic articles. Edit: her name is Katie Mack.

That's the thing with all these articles about "inventing" miracles. They're usually research that says "we found this thing that may do something awesome under the right conditions, but we'll need more info."

The concept of "moving on" doesn't really exist when talking about large, historical concepts. You can't "move on" from the transatlantic slave trade because it has informed so much of the history of the United States that we are still feeling it's effects today.

It's real easy to make jokes about how cowardly the French are without really understanding the history behind it all.

Are these troll posts, or just people who love seeing the same thing over and over again?

California is the world's 5th largest economy, and puts into the federal government about 1/3 of what it takes out. It has its issues (housing being the main one), but it is a powerhouse in all available metrics.

Holding a plebiscite on journalists is a terrible idea. You'll inevitably get a flood of people who hate CNN and Rachel Maddow without any sort of control.

I couldn't go to Indonesia with the Peace Corps because the only audiologist in my state didn't fill out the paperwork correctly then bounced out to mountains of New Hampshire.

And what's the line? There are numerous studies that say physical punishment is no more effective than any other type of discipline and often more detrimental to the emotional and psychological well being of the child.

My mom spanked me relentlessly. All it did was teach me how to hide my behavior and be afraid to actually go to her with legitimate concerns for fear of being beaten. Hitting your child is the easy way out.

It's an easy scapegoat, like Chicago, for people who want to rag on liberal governance.
