I understand that point, but that's not what the flag represents. The Pledge is about ideals. Not about saying, "everything is going great."

I kinda think people need to chill on this one, honestly. There's a difference between actual OCD and the kind of "OCD" that everyone says they have. As long as we understand the difference, it's all in good fun.
Like the way Rhett and Link handled it with their epic "My OCD" song. Just let people have their fun without crying foul just because it's not totally PC.

That's valid, but I do think it's a generalization. Religions do converge quite often. In fact I'd even say that it's inevitable that they do come together, since they're mostly pursuing the same goals.
Science comes together because of how it's been defined. The method was created in such a way that everyone (ideally) wluld agree. Religion (as a whole) doesn't do that. Many would even say that the diversity of perspectives on that religious tree is perhaps its greatest strength

That's hardly a fair comparison; the vast majority of the wars you're referring to occurred before science was even really a thing. And as I said, those wars were just political. Religion was just a weapon. 9 times out of 10 I'd bet the war still would have happened if there was no religion to speak of

Goes both ways. There are plenty of examples of religion bringing people together -- even people of different faiths.
There are even examples of "sciences" causing division.
Basically, division is caused by selfishness and political pressure, nothing more. Neither religion nor science is powerful or compelling enough to trump mankind's desire to be top dog.

And some say that they all have elements of truth in them.
I'd rather focus on what we have in common than what we disagree on.

@bassinyoface: but never just for the sake of change. The only time something should need to be changed is if we've come across new information that tells us that change would be beneficial. Otherwise we're just doing experiments that are at least as likely to make us worse off than better.

Green has a lot of great insighta and smart quotes, but this isn't one of them.
It should go without saying that when people talk about the good things that have happened in the past, they aren't directly referring to the bad things. Duh.

Beautiful thing is, this could either be a jab at progressivism or at traditionalism.
Or it could just be a joke.

Don't worry, I get the joke. I just think it's funny that making it into a joke is apparently the only way to defeat the argument.

I don't get how this is a totally valid point against abortion but because it's about tapeworms people don't think it is. Like a tapeworm is a more important creature than a human?

What else is he expecting to change? Schools are already gun-free zones -- the equivalent of airports not allowing you to wear shoes AT ALL. How much more strict can you get than zero tolerance?
At least airports have the common sense to assume that people who want to do harm won't follow the rules, and prepare accordingly. Maybe schools should do the same.

But how much harder? How many of these people are using guns that they don't legally own to begin with? They're already getting them illegally. So how is making them illegal going to change it?
