I know it is. I'm just saying the metaphor kinda sucks.

Agreed. When I grew up you paid for dinner because you asked her out. It was just common courtesy. Not a sign that you just wanted to get on her pants.
Who's coming up with these?

I might be able to understand what he/she is getting at, but I don't think that's a good metaphor to portray it.
Who would want to date an idiot who thinks he can cool a cup of water down by fanning it? He may be super devoted and all, and probably make a really great friend. But really?

I didn't know that until I was married, and saw my wife dry herself off after a shower.

Those "ridiculous anti-sjw types" probably aren't talking about legitimate trauma. They're just talking about being offended at things that aren't offensive.
If you have to decontextualize and exaggerate someone's point in order to make your own, just don't.

That I know. I'm just not finding how it was completely distinct from the Hitler salute.

Not just luck, no. Of course not. But the initial investments are always a gamble, and would not be successful without the right amount of luck. Management skill takes over after luck has done its part.

No, you said "That's a hamster tho". I said it's not a mouse.
Just in case anyone might be confused and think that it could be both a hamster and a mouse at the same time, you know. Just wanted to make sure it was absolutely clear.

Can someone link me one? Everything I've ever read says that they're pretty much the same. Only minor differences.

There is no such thing as "smart risk." If it was a smart choice to make, thousands of other people would have made it too. And it wouldn't be considered "risky" either.
Risk, by definition, means there's a chance you might fail. And for every time someone gets lucky, someone else doesn't. Musk was just lucky.

There's a difference between increased incidence and an "if-then" scenario. Bout all intelligent or educated people are depressed or suicidal.

But what this doesn't show you is all the times where wild predictions like this failed. Even a monkey throwing at a dartboard is bound to get lucky eventually.

That's not to say that the first one can't also be love. It's not like people are incapable of genuinely loving someone who happens to be all dolled up.

Good job Dawkins for saying something that anyone who's even taken rudimentary science could have said.

They're not meant to solve homelessness, they're meant to solve the problem of people sleeping where they don't have a right to.

I get that this does legit happen, but I don't think it happens as often as we're tempted to think.
I think in most cases it's not an issue of complexity, it's an issue of empathy. An issue of not quite being willing or even able to really see things from the other person's perspective.
Because, let's be honest... usually if you walk away thinking this, your opponent is probably thinking the exact same thing.
