Whats really sad is that Holocaust reports first started showing up as early as '43. But for several reasons allied commanders just couldnt and wouldnt believe it. It was so horrible to believe. They couldnt understand why the nazis would devote the resources they did the men the fuel the administration effort. As early as August '44 the Soviets over ran several death camps in Poland including Majdanek and Sobibor. It wasnt untill Western allied troops litteraly walked in the front gate that the holocaust was universally "discovered" despite prior knowledge. There is archive footage of Eisenhower visiting one. He is visibly shocked.
