I think in that episode marshall and lily are talking about their baby. in the first scene barney and robin are talking about marriage, in the second scene marshall and lilly are talking about lily getting pergnant, in the third scene talking about their kid graduating in future and in the last one ted's talking about grownig old with your partner. :) that's why thr background people change.

Pebble! I watched it! I think this episode represent that moments of life that you're expecting a happy happening but it turns out the opposite way. We expected that numbers to be a countdown for lily getting pregnant, but instead, marshall's father died.
