I've done the same thing. When I was 22 I just decided it was time to check out. I quit my job and boxed up everything in my apartment. The night I did it, my mom came to visit me and literally would not take no for an answer. She was at my door talking to me on the phone and I was trying to convince her that I didn't feel good and that I'd just go see her later. I was bleeding out on my apartment floor.
Anywho, I said all this to say that things literally don't stay this way. I'm 28 now, engaged, enrolled in college. I never thought I would be this happy and to think I almost missed it

Is this a common thing? As a female, I love getting flowers (any kind, any quantity) but I feel like my SO would look at me as if I had three heads if I returned the gesture.....

....... But it does mean ugly. No one has ever told you "oh wow your skin is glowing, you must be sleep deprived. I wish I could do that". Saying someone looks tired is basically saying they have looked better or that they aren't at their best.

You're completely right. It wasn't like it is now, when "pain and suffering" is a good reason for someone to owe you money. If these guys argued or stood up for what they thought was right, they were killed - no questions asked - regardless of whether or not it was the right thing to do
