Don't worry my child, if you believe in Jesus and accept him into your heart, you can have as much unprotected butt-sex as you like with all the prostitutes in New Orleans and never get AIDS. I can guarantee it. Thanks. God

They don't seem to understand the link between correlation and causation. Just because you have never been ill, doesn't mean you are more healthy, it just means you haven't come into contact with a serious pathogen yet (such as polio). You know why you haven't had the misfortune of contracting smallpox, or Polio? It's because of vaccines. You should be more grateful.

The Pressure To Be Perfect Leaves No Woman (Or Man) Behind!!! 14 comments

Having known male marines, the absolute last thing they care about is how they look. They are built and trained for performance, not aesthetics. Some of the training involves throwing yourself through various solid objects such as walls and windows. If you are worrying about what you will look like on the other side then I'm pretty sure Marines is not for you. Like the advert says, it is a mindset. It is all in the mind. I'm going to guess that you are not a male marine.

I don't understand how people can be so deeply traumatized by adverts like these. I do not look anything like the people protrayed in the ads, but I can still admire how exceptionally beautiful they are. To me, seeing those kind of ads makes me feel good. It is nice to appreciate beautiful people. I feel like the images are not the issue, it's what is inside your head. I might be in the minority though.

Because boys are told that they can cope, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. However girls are constantly told they can't cope with "body-image pressures", and they start to believe it. It is not the images that are the problem, it is the cultural attitude towards the images. In mainland Europe for example (such as France and Holland) adverts contain a lot more nudity of very thin, attractive women; however they appreciate it as beautiful and it doesn't effect body image in the same way it does in america. The same thing happens with sexual assault; many children who have been assaulted do not know that it is wrong at the time it happens, but when adults find out and they startbto tell the children how wrong it is, that is when the psychological trauma actually starts in many cases (i.e. not necessarily from the assault itself). It is entirely cultural. Nobody does Hysterical outrage quite like the americans.

There is never a "too soon", only "too personal". That is my rule anyway, if something affected you personally I probably won't joke about it.

Oh. My. God. Your spelling BREAKS my heart. On a different note, I think it is unhealthy for people to believe in "the one". This concept is relatively modern (think disney films). In the past, people entering relationships expected there to be some really tough times in the relationship and they worked through them. They knew there is no such thing as a perfect relationship and happily ever after. However nowadays, if something goes wrong, couples (especially girls) rationalise it as meaning that they are not meant to be and so they break up in order to continue their search for the mysterious "one". The way I look at things, there are thousands of girls in the world that I could live the rest of my life with, but whichever one I end up with I expect to work hard to make it work.

To be fair, the comment was childish because it was probably written by a child. There seems to be a lot of them on this website.

Exactly. This is what women tell themselves to make them feel better around more attractive females. They say to themselves "well she is beautiful on the outside but she is ugly on the inside". You can't know that until you get to know them. I would argue that many supermodels today are actually more "beautiful" on the inside than most normal women since the models take part in a lot of charity work etc. However this is not something "normal" women want to hear because that would make the models beautiful inside and out; it would be no contest.

It's good to feel good about how you look and your body, but in reality, beauty is defined by the biological desires of the opposite sex (or same sex in gays). Therefore women can keep telling each other that they are beautiful even though they are overweight, but men will never view them that way. It is a stable biological drive that is unlikely to ever change in humans.

Almost everything women do seems to be in an effort to make herself feel more attractive. Losing weight should also fall under this category. Losing weight to make yourself feel more attractive is just as valid as losing weight for health reasons.

Studies have shown that the idea of beauty for men is a very narrow and specific thing. In this sense, beauty is stable and consistent. Objectively (i.e. can be measured), the top women are more beautiful; this is due to increased indicators of youth and reproductive health (such as perfect skin, light skin, pert breasts, large eyes and forehead and large, plump lips etc) and overall symmetry. What you mistakenly have referred to in your comment above is the fact that people are "attracted" to different body types. You can be attracted to someone who isn't objectively beautiful, but that doesn't change the scientific parameters of what makes a physically attractive female.

Saying it doesn't make a person insecure, they are insecure before it has been said.

I'm pretty sure beauty can only be judged externally. Nobody considers themselves beautiful for example

Plus the scientific and engineering leaps that were made by both sides due to the war were absolutely monumental. Millions died, but it was arguably worth it for the benefit of future generations.
