This Device Can Charge Your Phone In 30. Freaking. Seconds 16 comments
guest · 10 years ago
No chemical battery is charging from low to full in 30 seconds. A carbon-fiber "battery" (which is technically a capacitor) could charge that fast, but I have strong doubts putting so much electrical current through a charging port wouldn't destroy a cell phone.
In any case, what's remarkable about this gif ISN'T the charger. I'm guessing time-lapse photography as well.

My grandmother was born without fingerprints. I had no idea this was a thing 34 comments
guest · 10 years ago
I accidentally burned my thumb with a lighter as a child, and it's true that you can temporarily lose your fingerprints that way. It's also true that you will end up crying like a little girl if you try. Think I'll just wear gloves to commit all my heinous crimes, or heck, maybe I'm just not cut out for a life of crime.

Afraid not. If we did, then we'll have to count other dwarf planets and planetoids of comparable size with irregular orbit such as Eris, Ceres, Haumea and Makemake. In fact, there's an estimated 200-10,000 planetoids and dwarf planets floating around in our solar system.
Perhaps you think there are people in lab coats watching the skies who can give us warning that a meteor of "extinguish life on Earth" size is coming. But based on best guesses and shrugged shoulders we can estimate maybe less than .5% of the doomsday sized chunks which are currently swirling around our own solar system have been discovered because not enough light reflects off them. Sleep tight!

Beliebers are a subset of dumbasses. While all Beliebers are dumbasses, not all dumbasses are Beliebers. So technically a different, though related, question.

No you can't, Paint will fill in every connected "dead end" path as well. Only paths not connected to start or finish will show as white.

If you compressed the earth into the size of a marble you would have a marble with comparable density to a black hole. However, Marble Earth will still have WAY less mass than is required to form a black hole.

I came at it a slightly different way, but got the same result
Pizza 1: 60/360 (fraction of the whole pizza) * pi * 6^2 (area of whole pizza) / $1.5 (price)
= 12.56 sq. inches/dollar
Pizza 2: 45/360 (fraction of whole pizza) * pi * 7^2 (area of whole pizza) / $1.7 (price)
= 11.31 sq. inches/dollar.
Just to match our numbers,
Reciprocal of 12.56 (1/12.56) = .0796 (almost 8 cents) per square inch
Reciprocal of 11.31 (1/11.31) = .0884 (close to 9 cents) per square inch

How does a kidnapper IN A CAR get chased by 2 teens ON BIKES for 15 minutes? And then chooses to give up? Don't get me wrong, great work for these two teens heading off a catastrophe, but I just can't picture how this went down in my head.

No, 50 million years. The light which bounced off the Earth is already out there, and it would take 50 million for that light hitting the mirror to make the return journey.
