Basically, imo any belief system including ideologies and political views can become toxic and dangerous, especially when the "I believe in something bigger than myself (be it a god, a cause, the future)" element kicks in. And there are people in pretty much any religion who just use it to be hateful assholes. That doesn't mean that religion is bad in itself, that said though I also think that when we look at abrahamic religions, their texts have more than enough material these hateful assholes can use, and we shouldn't just dismiss that.

@guest_ I don't deny that people can patronize other people based on their race, sex, ethnicity etc. I never did and I agree that it can happen in all the nooks and crannies within the political spectrum. But what I was pointing out is a different thing altogether, that sero only corrected a wrongful generalization when it was done by someone they politically disagree with, which I think is just plain hypocrisy.

Besides, your comment was a 6 word kinda vague statement. "Racism of low expectations", a term you just made up which we're supposed to understand as referring to the social security system and the apparent belief on the left that minorities always use it (which, you know, is just flat out wrong). If you meant it that way, you should've written it that way in the first place, vague slogan-y statements don't help anything.

Yeah the comment section is a bit confusing sometimes. Usually the difference between a regular comment and a reply is how much space there is to the left of them. It also sometimes helps to reload the page so that the comment no longer appears as new and the blue bar disappears.

Sigh... I don't want to sound like an old fart yelling at kids about not having experience, especially since I'm probably the youngest person in this thread. But this is something you have to have lived to understand. You say it's without basis because you don't have the experience with people like this who pick a cat just because it's cute but then realize they can't take care of it despite all the warnings, you don't know what it's like to have a shelter almost overflow because of idiotic parents who buy their kids an animal for Christmas and then realize they can't take care of them, etcetera. I am simply fed up with people being irresponsible towards pets and by now I can smell them from miles away.
