I remember reading somewhere that if churches were taxed, we would have enough money to send a curiosity rover to Mars every week.
P.s., not all churches are homophobic. My church sure isn't, and even the pope doesn't judge gays
I would argue a point but I'm not in the mood. I will just leave it at this: Churches are suppose to act like and be non profit organizations designed to help people while receiving no benefit. That is nothing at all like a homo/pan/bi/a/omni/hedon sexual person.
Well...no. It is unconstitutional to tax churches because of the First Amendment. Taxes are backed up by laws, and "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ...."
Not really? the whole premise behind that part of the First Amendment really only states that our government will neither promote a certain religion nor prohibit anyone's practice of religion. If Congress taxed every church, then it would not violate the First Amendment since no one church would be given precedence over another.
Except...taxes are laws. And I quoted from the First Amendment up there, which clearly states that no laws shall be levied against a religious institution. And who's to say that a president wouldn't try to lower taxes for his church, or the thousands of lobbyists wouldn't try to do the same for the people they work for?
If a church is operating as a non-profit, like many are, then they should be tax exempt. If a church is for profit, they should be taxed. No favorites.
