So North Korea has more food than any other country in the world, yet when food supplies get low, sawdust makes a good substitute. Do the citizens over there not see a problem with that logic?

Nope. This is what they grow up believing. Whatever logic that may have been born with is flawed according to everyone else in their country.

I highly doubt the citizens of North Korea actually believe this, I struggle to comprehend anybody being able to believe this

If they have grown up uneducated, it is very possible. It would be like telling a 4-year-old the same things. They're probably going to believe you.. Not because they're dumb, but because they are uneducated.

North Koreans have to believe this shit. All the citizens have to at least pretend to buy into the cult of personality to keep safe. If you've ever seen videos of NK festivals, all the citizens will continue clapping until Dear Leader stops, under penalty of very harsh reprisal.
