But how would they pronounce it in their head?

What if they're a deaf and blind? Sorry, I've been wondering this for some time.

You mean like Hellen Keller? I would assume that they don't think in any language. They just think, like babies and animals do

But Hellen Keller learned to speak eventually. She mainly just did speeches, though, because to respond, she needed someone to sign things to her.

And she had a mentor that wrote on her hand(talked) to her in English because before Hellen Keller was deaf and blind, she knew a bit of English but lost it all to scarlet fever

I'm sure they think in motion/actions until they understand sign language. So pretty much how we learn to speak - but they speak with their hands not voice.

More or less deaf people "feel" themselves signing whatever they are thinking

Did you know you can change the language you think in if you use another language a lot?

Of course, it is the only way (imo) to become truly fluent in another language. If you are trying to translate what is being said to you into your native tongue, and then your response back again you will never keep up with a real conversation. By learning to force your mind to think in the new language you cut out the translating.

I'm pretty sure they think in whatever language they either learn to read or sign. Helen Keller learned sign language which is a universal language, so she might have thought in motions/gestures. They probably pronounce if and/or any words they learn by however they are said(like how the dictionary gives the pronunciation)(if they are blind also then they could get a dictionary for the blind and that would tell them)

How do they know how to pronounce words? As you learn to read with the sounds of the letters/words don't you? *brain melts*

You don't have to know how to pronounce a sound unless u r going to speak the language. It is completely possible to learn to read a different language and not know how to pronounce the letters in that language, therefore being unable to speak it or recognize words when they are spoken. People can speak a language and not be able to read or write it also.

What I think is that they would make up their own language, and assign names to things.

Yes i think thinking without language is much more powerful and much faster. Apes also think in pictures, feelings and emotions. Something like that. And Apes are much faster in remembering orders of number than students.

My uncle is deaf, and he said that he thought in images, until he learned sign language. Then, he thought in sign language.

Well, science time. Theoretically, a thought is a pulse of energy pushed through certain lobes of the brain in order to create the notion of an internal voice. So a deaf person having never heard a voice or understanding any form of spoken language would think in sign language. No, they would not see the elaborate hand gestures in their vision, instead they would feel the movements in there hands, much like the way the brain tricks you into 'hearing' your inner voice. I hope this was helpful.

The same language you thought in before you learned how to talk. The same language primates use to figure out how to use tools. The same language your dog thinks in when it learns how to flip the latch to the gate. You don't have to think in words to be able to think.
