Possibly because we don't sell assault weapons (or really any kind of weapon) to children and it is illegal to leave them where children can access them easily.
Edit:Was a reference to the ad itself, not to the OP.
That and that is an AR15 platform rifle without full automatic or burst capability, so it is not a battle rifle or assault weapon as msnbc would have you believe.
Because we totally sell guns to elementary aged children.
.
Guns are a part of The United States bill of rights, we can't just pick and choose what we like and what we don't like.
Give up the second, and then watch as the other nine are taken away.
Give up any of them, and the entirety of the bill of rights will collapse.
.
What we could do, is educate children on firearm safety and have armed guards at or near schools. The outlawing of 'assault' weapons was ignored in Conneticut, make the ban nationwide at a time like this, and simply being ignored will be the least of the governments concern.

Yeah, but Australia had laws imposed about guns i the 90s and we've not had a single gun massacre since. America hasn't and they've had a couple. Coincidence? I don't see the issue with taking the right to own guns out of the law without keeping the laws that protect people more effectively in there.
Coming from someone not from America, having armed guards outside schools scares me, and is to me CRAZY. I dont think chillern should be anywhere near guns! It frightens me how much gun violence there is in the US, and how many people own a gun. But I guess to many of you, thats just normal?
You don't seem to understand that massacres aren't the only form of crime.
Since Australia's and Britain's gun bans, blunt objects, sharp objects, and one's own bare hands have been used to commit crimes.
Since the bans, your crime rates are higher than they were before the bans.
.
You also seem to forget that the US was born from the ideas of free market, and individual liberty over nationwide order.
.
And also, no one just gives an unstable/ uneducated child guns. The shootings that are committed by young people are done with illegally obtained firearms.
And even if every American child had unrestricted access to a gun, it wouldn't be a problem if they were taught safety and respect rather than 'guns are evil'.
I mean, teaching sexual abstinence obviously isn't helping anyone.
.
Regardless, neither of you from the US, so you were raised with different ideals in mind.
I'm not trying to have your gun bans lifted, I simply don't want them over here.
Aww look at the all Americans...and you wonder why you're the butt end to every country's joke. We're TRYING to HELP you. McDonald was correct (you just chose - for whatever reason - to neglect the facts). After the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996, John Howard abolished our guns. It was the best decision our former Prime Minister ever made. You need gun control America. EVERY COUNTRY is crying out to you. Australia learnt from it's lesson the first time it happened. More than 20 years later America still hasn't figured it out. Put two and two together.
You will hate me for saying this - I've already anticipated that. You will continue to ignore what Australia, England Canada, EVEN OBAMA and every other country has to say. Just don't say we never told you so.
and to famousone: our crime rate is RIDICULOUSLY lower than yours. We're just talking about massacres here.
America, we're not your enemy, we love you, we're trying to protect you from yourselves.
I love how in these discussions no one ever references Switzerland where, by law, literally every male over the age of 16 owns and is trained in the use of a firearm.
We don't give a fuck about what other countries want us to do!
Again, that's the whole reason the US was founded.
You guys can keep your laws and keep believing that you all are better, just keep it in your own damned countries.
.
We were born from suspicion and an intense hatred of being told what to do.
Our constitution is our defense, but if we give up any if our original rights, everything built by our forefathers is going straight down the shitter!
What is safety if your word means nothing and your life is controlled by fucking lawyers?
What is civility if it leaves you vulnerable to those who don't care about rules?
The US is not like you.
We are bigger, freer, and more diverse.
We took care of ourselves and our own to become the biggest, meanest dog on the block. We stood in front of the Soviets, we helped you all kill the Nazis, we became a global power.
.
How hard is it for you to understand that in the eyes of an American, some things are much worse than death?
People like Obama are the reason we are losing our strength.
And you know what, I am taking your words as a personal insult, because you are insulting the ideals of the nation I love and hope to fight for.
Keep your own damned laws, we don't need 'em.
No, America does not need stricter gun laws, because laws DON'T stop criminals from committing illegal acts. Why is that so hard for people to understand!?
If guns are easy to obtain, more people will have a gun, and the risk of a gun being in the wrong hands therefor increases.. Look at other countries, America, and see what kind of mess you are in.
There is also a greater chance of the bad guy getting put down in the middle of a crime.
The right to own a gun is America's heritage, same as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to a trial, and apple pie.
I don't care what Norwegians are doing, you keep on doing what you do, just respect that in the eyes of many Americans, safety at the cost of our liberty isn't worth it.
We don't what to be like Europe, that's why we left.
I'm from Chicago. We have one of the highest crime rates AND some of the most strict gun laws. A couple weekends ago ~35 people were killed in the city. This is how it is every weekend. Its known as 'chiraq' now because its like a war zone. They are literally calling in troops to help. Criminals do not care if the law says they can't have guns. Its gangbangers killing gangbangers and since when do they abide by laws? Its not getting better, its getting far worse.
Famousone, it seems like you don't understand that we have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to trial and all of that in Norway too! We have a right to own a gun, but the everyday man don't need one. Hunters and criminals do, and they are the ones with guns. It works for us at least :) And I'm not bashing on your freedom, I just find it terrifying that so many people find the need for a gun. I'm entitled to many things that I don't execute. I see your side of the story, but I don't think I'll ever fully agree.
Why are you all so enamored with our gun laws? We aren't asking for your help or your opinions, especially when you are not citizens of this country. They have nothing to do with what is happening in your own back yard. Speaking of back yards, pay more attention to what is happening in yours. There is war, unrest, a passenger plane full of innocent people has been shot down, pedophilia scandals, the list goes on, and yet for the sake of your adolescent ego, you pick our gun laws to voice your opinion. Surely you have better things to think about.
Why are you taking this discussion so personally? I don't need to be asked in order to voice my opinion. Freedom of speech, remember? I think it's great that we are able to discuss what we think about this subject, I'm learning a lot. And why are you assuming I'm not a citizen of this country? And even if I'm not, why shouldn't I be allowed to talk about American laws? With your logic, I shouldn't be allowed to voice my opinion about the horrific plane crash in Ukraine.. This has nothing to do with ego, that's as far off as it gets. Your comment is so narrow minded, Shakti.

It baffled me that we are the "butt end of every other countries joke" and "what a mess we are in" when there are so many other things going on in this world. "Coming from someone not from American" is not an assumption, you said that. And why are you taking my comment and my opinion, which I have free speech to voice as well, so personally? Am I not allowed to be frustrated at the constant comments about our gun laws? I'm certainly not saying don't have discussions about topics unless they are happening to you, but "look at other countries and see what kind of a mess you are in" comes off as finger pointing and is more closed minded than my comment, considering the state of affairs globally. I do take this personally because I do live here, and I would like to keep this right and all others.
I'm sorry if I hurt you, but I'm just saying what I think. If you don't like other people taking about this, then this comment section just isn't for you. And just to clear things up: I don't live in America. However, my father does, and I spend a couple of months here every year. So this does effect me too. I'm not just bashing on your country, but I see both sides of this. The American side, where guns are floating around, and the Norwegian side, where guns are more rare.

This comment section is for me, more so than someone who doesn't live here at all, because I do and any decisions to revoke any of my rights affect my life 365 days a year. So to me, the opinions of the ones that have residence do matter more than those who do not. It's rarely a two sided conversation out of interest, we more frequently hear the opinions of how we are wrong. I would be interested in knowing how things work in your country, but I will never tell you what rights I think you should be allowed to keep or what rights I think you should revoke. That would be naive of me.
Well, I'm sorry that I would rather live in Norway than here, so that I could participate in this conversation as an equal. And I'm sorry that a couple of moths a year in adidition to caring about my family isn't enough for me to be able to express my concern in a discussion..
As far as I know, I haven't told you whats right and wrong? I have only voiced my opinion, and expressed my concern, in addition to say what system we have in Norway that in my opinion, works great. Just like you said you were interested in. Now, I'm so done with this discussion. Unfortunately, you seem to take every bit of critique and/or questioning by anyone extremely personal. And I have no interest in hurting your feelings.

You did not hurt my feelings, as I hope the same for yours. Asking why I would like to keep my gun rights would be more of an equal conversation. Talking about you and your family's experience would be more of an equal conversation. The point was, people from other countries (and I am not talking about you personally) that say we're wrong, is not an equal conversation. I am not closed minded and I do not get upset when critiqued. Thank you for the observation though. I am frustrated, like I mentioned, as I have a right to be.
Ooh rah guys, Stand and fight. Hey Norwegiangirl, was it one of yours or an Icelander that used Kalashnikovs and bombs to kill dozens at a kids camp in the not too distant past? Submission and slavery terrify us more than death, our ownership of firearms allows us to at least try to fight for our rights and our future. We do not have soldiers in full battle gear in our train stations and airports like you Europeans do, totalitarianism is not our cup of tea, we try to do things different here.
There was a terrorist attack in Norway in 2011, yes. A norwegian man dressed up as a policeman and killed close to 100 people at a political camp for kids, after bombing Oslo. I can't speak for other European countries, but in Scandinavia, we certainly do NOT have soldiers walking around with firearms anywhere.. Not even police carry guns.
Wait a minute Norwegiangirl, if you guys have a mass shooting it is a terrorist's fault but of it happens here it is the gun's fault? You need to apply the same rules across the board. Additionally, what is a political camp?
It's not the guns fault, at all! Not here, not in America or any other place. It's always the person behind the weapon's fault. I have never said otherwise. I have said that I think the more guns there are around/the more people with guns - the more people will get hurt. Sorry if I said something that made it seem like I felt differently about guns in Norway and guns in America. I'm afraid of guns, but in Norway, I'm not afraid of walking on the street because of gun violence. Hope this cleared that up!
It was a summercamp where kids, well more like teens, would spend time and do regular summercamp activities, in addition to discussing politics. They were member of a group/organisation called AUF, which is the teen party of Arbeiderpartiet - the leading party in the country at that time.
you can leave a gun on the ground in the middle of nowhere (even fully loaded) and probs. no1 will find it...guns arent the probs its the crazys that r the problem, not saying that I dont think the jinder egg thing is stupid
they didn't specifically ban kinder eggs, thats just what the conspiracy nuts would like you to believe to show how crazy the US is. The FDA banned putting non food items into food. More to stop things like putting a coin or other hard object into a cake. Since most people wouldn't just assume there might be something super hard in there, they bite down and injure themselves. It just so happened that kinder eggs fall into this category since they have a toy completely enclosed in chocolate.
I dunno, maybe my parents run a secret Kinder Egg smuggling ring, but we get these every year for Easter and Christmas. And I've seen them at a certain candy shop (granted, it's one of those quirky imports-from-everywhere shops). Is that law still enforced, or has it become one of those weird laws like "it is illegal to sing in a bathtub in Pennsylvania" that no one follows?

Personally i think you should educate children about gun safety and let them shoot a gun so they know that they are dangerous. And over here in britainland we have unlimited kinder eggs
They got banned because the small toys inside then are a choking hazard and there's an act in The food drug and cosmetic act from 1938 saying that no item that is not food can be inside food.
The reason is we are making american kids stupid. And the gun isn't dangerous. Its the bullets you have to watch out for, and like the kinder egg, they're small & a choking hazard so arn't sold to kids. Did you know all USA vaccumes are made not to suck too much b/c kids used to put them on faces and suck out organs?
Cause you know, 10 year olds with powerful guns will protect everyone. No no don't worry, she won't shoot you unless you don't give her your snack pack. Good Fucking job society, you screwed us all
